What a great week of movies!!! Follow up reminder- we will again be showing "武松打我" on Saturday, Dec. 29 19:00 at Club Obi Wan. The director and producer will be present for Q&A. The showing will be proceeded by a shorter program also with director Q&A featuring the internet video series "杀手阿勇" if you've been following the absurd adventures of 杀手阿勇 on the popular Chinese video websites, now's your chance to meet the minds behind the man!
The movies will be shown with English subtitles.

And there we were, thick in a week of nightly screenings of fantastic indie movies! The press, the documentarian, the local moviemakers, the Chinese and foreign audience members- A good time was had by all. Though we could've used some more chairs.
A very kind lady from Canada documented the screenings, and we'll have soon posted some video on this site for our overseas movie contributors to see the local crowd enjoying their work.
Every movie we've shown so far has elicited a distinct response from the audience. From "My god I can't believe they would show that!" to "Hey, my sister went to school with that guy!"
We tallied the praises, and the audience opinions and volunteer poll results were reflected by the awarding of our Beijing Golden Duck to seven movies. It wasn't a big ceremony, just an on-camera nod to the people responsible for entertaining us most. We're attempting to ship the tokens of our affections to the moviemakers in a timely manner, and will be sending all the moviemakers some souvenirs.

Our Chinese Independent Movie Screening Series at Club Obi Wan got us off to a good start. People came, movies were shown, appreciated, criticized, and hopefully the message was received that there is a place in Beijing for EVERYONE to be a moviemaker and share their ideas via video.
That said, not everything we're showing is a low-budget art movie. We will always aim for a good mix between the professional and experimental.
We have weekly planning meetings every Sunday at Club Obi Wan at 17:00.

19:00, Channel Zero presents "The Naked Life of Qin Yongjian" (Documentary)

Qin Yongjian's dream is to one day be an actor. However, he has yet to make any inroads in the industry. Instead, he works as a male nude model in Beijing. A man obsessed with the body, Yongjian spends his days being painted and photographed. In this way he is able to not only perform, but receive the attention he craves. But being a male nude model in traditional China is not an easy task. Fang Min, a female nude model and friend, helps to steer Yongjian out of trouble. As Yongjian's behaviour becomes more excessive, those around him begin to wonder whether he has lost his mind.

WuDi Wang hails from Hebei originally, stepping out from North China to study Graphic Design at Shanghai Donghua University, and Film + Video at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. He graduated in February 2006, and regularly continues to expand his catalog of cinematic endeavors! While largely set in Germany, the experimental nature of his student works transcends cultural minutiae to connect with common experiences shared by visual artists all over the world.

A group of Chinese artists embark upon a project to rediscover gong-fu and MMA fighting as disciplines indivisible from the fine arts of sculpture and painting, song and dance, photography and filmmaking. Their work culminates in a professional exhibition of international fighters traveling thousands of kilometers to meet their challenge. This is one of the only stories in the modern world to explore the relation between fine arts and gong-fu.

Xueshun Yuan, often called as Lao Yuan, is an ordinary farmer living nearby the Rongcheng Swan Lake, China. The Rongcheng Swan Lake is not only the biggest winter habitat of swans in the north of China , but also one of the four biggest swan lakes in the world. Over 20 years, Lao Yuan comes to the lake each winter, inspects and saves swans of his own accord. His voluntary act has unexpectedly made him a well-known news figure far and wide, and brought him the First Prize for Environment Protection from the Ford Foundation. As a result, Lao Yuan's life is no longer peaceful: fellow villagers expect him to make up for the wheat seedling eaten by the swans; the town government assumes an ambiguous attitude towards Lao Yuan's acts of swan protection; and the swan lake is being turned into a farm…Against this backdrop of curious and suspicious observers, Lao Yuan, with a Chinese farmer's persistence, keeps on struggling for a wider living space for the swans.
The film follows Lao Yuan in his three years of voluntary swan protection work since Jan. 2004, and tells us a true story of his daily struggles and human limitations as a common farmer with a strong faith and persistence in his cause.

高飞清醒过后，为自己的行为深感懊悔，故意疏远林夕，然而这时一波未平一波又起。高飞发现林夕竟然与蝎子彪关系密切。他索性停止了训练，以摆脱林夕的纠缠。
不久，高飞在电脑上收到一封来信，署名是一个叫"红指甲"的人，他只好找林夕了解情况，从而得知林夕就是红指甲，两人重归于好，又恢复了往日的训练，林夕主动提出做他的拳靶，雨点般的拳头落在林夕的头上，他被打的伤痕累累。高飞被林夕的真诚所打动，彼此间的情义更加深厚。
渐渐地高飞发现林夕并不是"红指甲"，他决定用自己的方式唤醒自己的记忆，这时他的女友美怡出现了，林夕妒火中烧，百般刁难美怡，引起了高飞极大的不满，二人为此闹的不欢而散……
蝎子彪接受了高飞的挑战，二人经过一场残酷的血战，高飞的记忆竟然奇迹般的复然了，蝎子彪却命丧黄泉。同时，林夕的真实身份也浮出水面……
This is a movie about an amnesiac underground boxer who might be gay, and his flaming lover who definitely is. They are antagonized by their past in the form of Scorpion Face, a fighter with the most godawful looking tattoo the world has ever known.
