Movie selections for June have been made and our screening schedule is finalized. We are still choosing movies to possibly be shown at Greening The Beige in July.
The June 2 event has been effectively canceled, and some of the movies from that date moved to June 8. Also on June 8, we're pleased to introduce our French/English language host for the evening, Arnaud Collery.

我们很高兴地宣布中外青年电影交流周(NBIMW)的第二阶段现已正式启动了！现向大家宣布电影展播时间、地点并对入选电影进行简介。在本交流周内，我们共将展播约40部电影。其中包括剧情短片与长片， 同时还有叙事体及纪录片。这些作品来自全世界很多不同国家，包括有：澳大利亚，保加利亚，加拿大，中国，英国，法国，日本，韩国，葡萄牙，瑞典，瑞士以及美国等。通过字幕，中外观众都可以来欣赏这些电影。
We are pleased to announce the second installment of the New Beijing International Movie Week. This announcement provides information regarding official dates, venues and a preliminary slate of films. Over the course of the event we will screen approximately 40 films. These films will include short and feature length format, as well as narrative and documentary content. Submissions have been received from filmmakers around the globe. Some of the countries represented are: Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, China, England, France, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA. Either through language or subtitles, all movies will be accessible to Chinese and English speakers.
中外青年电影交流周于2007年正式启动，旨在将全世界最新独立制作的电影带给中国观众。发起者、组织者以及志愿者都是本着对独立电影的热爱以及对视频载体传达理念的热忱而走在一起的。我们的目标就是想向观众展示那些既在电影院里看不到，在DVD碟店里也买不到的影片。我们身在北京，这也使得我们格外关注中国本地的独立制作影片。
The New Beijing International Movie Week - 中外青年电影交流周 – was launched in 2007 in an attempt to bring new international independent movies to a diverse audience in China. The founders, organizers and volunteers are all linked by their common love of independent film and an interest in presenting new ideas in the video medium. Our goal is to showcase new movies gathered from all over the world that can not be seen on theater screens or purchased from DVD vendors. Being situated in Beijing, we are also keenly interested in finding and promoting great Chinese independent movies.

The official dates for our next week long event are June 1st through June 8th. Screenings will be held at D~22, Club Obi Wan, YugongYishan (愚公移山), Beijing Film Academy and the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts, with the possibility of additional venues yet to be announced. All events with be free of charge, with the exception of YugongYishan. Please note - screenings at the Beijing Film Academy and the Chinese Academy of Fine Arts are for students and by invitation only. Please see our website for the most current schedule:

A special kick-off event will be held at Club Obiwan on May 29th featuring last year’s audience favorites and award winners, with some of the directors being on hand to discuss their films. Additionally, trailers for the upcoming NBIMW movies will be shown, and detailed printed programs for the week will be made available to attendees.

Three stories, one movie. Three filmmakers share their visions to create a single film about life and love in China's capital. One who has grown up in Beijing, one who has made a new home there, and one who has only just arrived.

The foreigner, who must decide whether to follow his head and leave or follow his heart and stay, the young idealist who discovers the truth behind his dreams and desires, and the peasant garbage collectors, who for at least one night, feel like they are truly home.
The Blue Hour

Set in a working-class neighborhood by the Los Angeles River, The Blue Hour examines the everyday lives of a Mexican graffiti muralist, an Armenian camera repairman, a Blues guitarist and an elderly pensioner. Composed of four stories, the film connects the parallel lives of strangers in that continually pass each other by, not knowing that their paths have crossed in small but sometimes profound ways.

Pedro, an engineer posted in a village in the North of Portugal, waits to be transferred back to Lisbon. Since his road project was canceled, he spends his time working on the village website he created. Just when a transfer seems imminent, Pedro receives a letter from a large multinational corporation threatening a 500.000 € lawsuit if he doesn’t shut down the site. But the village association’s approval is necessary before he can close the site and this proves to be harder to obtain than expected. An enjoyable movie filled with all the charm and character of a small Portuguese town and it’s inhabitants spinning out of control.

Lily is an atmospheric and suspenseful tale of love, loss and obsession. At its core, this piece examines the sacrifice that all true desire carries with it, and how far people are sometimes willing to journey from themselves in order to find peace.

Ghosts Of The Heartland

It's 1952, the McCarthy era is at its peak and big city reporter, Roland, is returning to his small hometown. Upon arrival, he finds that the Chinese community is experiencing persecution similar to the early stages of the Jewish experience in 1930's Germany. He fears that a McCarthyite thug is behind a plot to steal land from the Chinese the same way he did twenty years earlier from native Americans. Roland suffers from a bad case of racial self-hatred. His old girlfriend fears he will sell out the Chinese to write his big story, in order to win the Pulitzer and gain acceptance into white society.
Aux Frontieres De La Nuit

A story anchored in our reality, reminding us that the human being, regardless of his skin color, who he is or where he comes from, is capable of the best as well as the worst. Punk Love

In search of a new life they move to Portland, where Spike hopes to get a new start . Shortly after he gets in his first band, Sarah is badly beaten by a perverse taxi driver. Spike is placed under arrest. Once released from jail, he goes to take Sarah away, but an altercation with her step-father ends with the death of the latter at the hand of the upset girl. They must flee again.

After a heated argument with his former employer, passionate newspaper photographer Di Feng quits his job. Her face is covered by her long black hair, making it impossible for him to ever see her clearly. So again, his camera becomes more than a simple tool, as each zoom of his lens draws him deeper into her story…
